Former Presidential Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Professor Ashu Marasinghe has sent a letter of demand claiming Rs.1.5billion rupees as compensation from former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and Adarsha Karandana respectively for allegedly making a defamatory statement regarding him during a press conference held on December 23.
Marasinghe’s lawyer, Malin Rajapaksa has sent the letter of demand on behalf of him, ordering both parties to pay respective amounts of compensation within 14 days from the date on which the notice was issued (29 Dec.). In the event of failure to do so, legal proceedings will be instituted against them for the recovery of the quoted sum with additional interests and the cost of the lawsuit, according to Rajapaksa.
On 24 December, Marasinghe filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against a video widely circulated on social media allegedly showing him sexually abusing a dog released by SJB former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra to the media.
