In response to reports of a Mixtard insulin shortage, the Medical Supplies Division of the Health Ministry is implementing measures to procure 85,000 units this week to meet the urgent needs of hospitals nationwide.
Dr. G. Wijesuriya, Deputy Director General of Medical Supplies, stated that the current insulin shortage is now being managed effectively.
“We have already initiated steps to resolve the issue. Initially, we sourced supplies from alternative market sources, acquiring 7,500 units of Mixtard insulin, with an additional 5,000 units expected to arrive shortly. Furthermore, we have arranged to purchase 85,000 units this week, which will adequately address the temporary shortage,” Dr. Wijesuriya remarked.
He also indicated that the supply chain is anticipated to return to normal within three weeks.
