The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has received executive committee approval to commence discussions with the United National Party (UNP) to explore a potential alliance.

During a meeting held yesterday (16), chaired by SJB Leader and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, most of the executive committee members supported forming a partnership with the UNP.

In line with this decision, a five-member committee, led by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, will spearhead the negotiations with the UNP.

The UNP has also agreed to initiate talks, signalling readiness for collaboration.

Both parties have faced increasing calls from their grassroots activists and supporters to unite and contest upcoming elections as a coalition.

According to the general secretaries of both parties, discussions are expected to begin promptly to formalize the alliance.
