The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has approved a disbursement of Rs. 3,000 million to clear outstanding food and accommodation allowances owed to police officers.

Minister Ananda Wijepala revealed that the payments had been delayed for over three months due to financial constraints. Each police officer is entitled to an allowance, with a minimum of Rs. 28,500 per officer.

Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya confirmed that the disbursement process will begin within the next week, ensuring that the long-overdue payments are settled promptly.

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the welfare needs of law enforcement personnel.
