Air Quality level in Sri Lanka improving – NBRO

Sri Lanka’s air quality has improved significantly as at 8.00 a.m. this morning (Dec 09), according to the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Air Quality Index levels with Indicate  moderate level at Colombo 07, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Vavuniya, Kandy, Rathnapura, Embilipitiya, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Kalutara, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa and good level at all cities.

The air quality in several areas in Sri Lanka reached extremely unhealthy levels as of 09.00 am yesterday (08).

‘Magenta’ alerts were issued to Battaramulla, Colombo, and Mannar, which  recorded 114 and 117, respectively in the Air Quality Index (AQI).

The NBRO said that polluted air from India has entered Sri Lanka’s air space through the winds and hence, the Northern part of Sri Lanka and certain other areas are currently facing a severe drop in air quality.
