Import restrictions imposed on 10 items relaxed

 

The government has relaxed the restrictions imposed on 10 items through a Special Gazette Extraordinary.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Minister of Finance, Economic, Stabilization and National Policies has issued the Special Gazette Extraordinary yesterday (19).

Accordingly, energy drinks for the tourism sector, MDF boards for furniture, CCTV for security purposes, and Sports Ministry-approved sports items are among the 10 items on which restrictions have been eased.

State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya added that the Gazette notification on the revocation is effective from today (20).

President Wickramasinghe earlier lifted the ban on import items on two occasions as per the requests made by The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Business Entrepreneurs of the Industrial Sector and Board of Investment. As a result, the import restrictions on 708 items were lifted on 09 September 2022 while 78 items were released from import ban on 23, November 2022.
