SLPP MP Dilan Perera speaking during a media briefing held at the party headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday said that he takes on full responsibility for the government’s decision to reopen liquor outlets during the existing lockdown.
MP Perera said if liquor outlets remained shut, people who were on daily wages would be forced to drink moonshine (kassippu).
Speaking further the MP said to consume alcohol or not was a decision entirely left to the individual.
He also said that the wealthy and affluent had no problem in ordering the poison of their choice irrespective of a lockdown or curfew.
The MP also said that Sri Lanka was not a country governed by an extremist outfit such as the Taliban.
Perera said that he too was a heavy drinker, who consumed alcohol while checking his liver.
