AG’s dept launches probe into cricketers’ match-fixing reports

The Attorney General’s Department has authorized an investigation into a report by Al Jazeera that former Sri Lankan cricketers and some officials were involved in match-fixing.

Cricket coach Tharindu Mendis, who was involved in a competitive discussion on the news footage, was summoned to the Special Investigation Unit of the Police yesterday (23) afternoon for a statement, said its senior SSP Jagath Fonseka.

Following the statement, SSP Jagath Fonseka, the Chief of the Special Investigation Unit of the Police, spoke to the media about the sports offences.
