Minister of Health Pavitra Wanniarachchi has called the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) for a meeting to discuss the reason for disqualifying three prominent Russian state universities without her consent.

Minister Wanniarachchi is reported to have said that there was no apparent reason for the delisting of the Russian universities, unless the SLMC had strong proof for doing so.

Chairman of the SLMC yesterday (14) said that its de-listing of three Russian state universities, from the SLMC’s website was an accidental error which occurred at the hands of an employee.

The Russian Centre in Colombo on Friday (11) expressed its concern over SLMC’s decision to remove People’s Friendship University of Russia (formerly known as Patrice Lumumba University), Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and Tver State Medical University from their approved list.
